Clarify your career plans. Continue studying hard.

Check high school courses. Will you meet college requirements?

Check announcements for college representatives visiting campus.

Get involved in activities; genuine involvement in one is better than token participation in several.

Obtain a Social Security number (you'll need it for college applications and testing registration).

OCTOBER



Register for the PSAT during early October for the October 2001 test

Read PSAT/ NMSQT Student Bulletin. Take the practice test and score it.

Develop lists of your interests.

Obtain dates and places of local college fairs.

Check out Foreign Language SAT II tests in the Career Center.

NOVEMBER



Explore college opportunities through the following means:
Visiting with the college reps that come on campus
Attending college day and night programs
Using college sources in the Career Center, including Choices and Bridges

Begin to involve your parents in the college choice process.

Put forth your best academic efforts in these last two years.

DECEMBER



Review your PSAT scores.

Read Taking the SAT I.

Talk with graduates who are home from college.

JANUARY



Continue career exploration.

Prepare for semester exams; college look at your junior grades.

Plan SAT I/SAT II testing schedule. Register for March/April SAT I.

FEBRUARY



Attend College Night for Juniors - TBA

Plan senior year courses; do they meet college requirements?

Begin the college search. Refer to "Choosing a College" section in this handbook.

Ask about summer enrichment programs or activities.

MARCH



Register for the May and June SAT I/SAT II

Register for ACT for April and June.

Consider SAT II Tests in courses you are taking this year.

Complete your senior schedule.

Work hard in your present courses.

APRIL



Develop a preliminary list of colleges that interest you and write to them for information
during early summer.

Listen to college presentations.

Plan visits to colleges that interest you.

File service academy & ROTC scholarship applications if interested in them.

MAY



May - SAT I and SAT II

Identify teachers whom you can ask for recommendations.

Take SAT I or SAT II Tests.

Make a profile of colleges that interest you; use computer programs, the internet, college catalogs
and college guides.

JUNE



Prepare for finals.

Take SAT I or SAT II: Subject Tests

Continue the college search.

Plan summer visits to colleges.

If you don't have a job, try volunteering in your career area.

Organize your personal, academic, and extra-curricular information for requesting
recommendations and to develop your personal essays
(see Letter of Recommendation Request Procedures.)
