The University of California Campuses: Each of the eight general UC campuses--Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz--offers a balanced program covering all basic areas of undergraduate study. Each Campus also has unique academic programs and features that set it apart.
The ninth campus, San Francisco, is devoted to the health sciences, and is not open to students applying directly from high school. The University's tenth campus, UC Merced, is expected to open in 2004.
To choose the UC campus you wish to attend, you must first identify those aspects of academics and campus life that are most important to you. The academic programs, the physical setting, the size of the student body, and the students themselves are just a few of the factors that contribute to the individual character of each campus.
Other considerations include how far from home the campus is, the type of community that is adjacent to the campus and available cultural and recreational activities.
You are encouraged to visit the campuses you are considering and talk to students and professors. This will help you determine which particular campus suits your needs and personality. Counselors in the campus Admissions and Relations with Schools offices can answer many of your questions, and the MVHS Career Center has catalogs, brochures, and other information from all the UC campuses.
The information above, and in the campus summaries, was obtained from Introducing the University, a UC publication that is available in the Career Center.
