Sophia all four years at the varsity level. At the completion of her senior
season Sophia had scored over 1260 points including 399 this year and 452 in
her junior year (she unfortunately missed 3 games this year due to injury).
As a player Sophia has won MVP three out of the four years. Her accolades also
include, All League First Team for the last three years, Honorable Mention Sophomore
of the Year, Junior of the Year, Honorable Mention League MVP her junior year
and has been recently been named League MVP (SCVAL -El Camino League). Along
with aforementioned awards, Sophia's talents and contributions to our team are
immeasurable. She is an accurate three-point shooter, free throw shooter and
her repertoire includes the ability to drive to the basket, dish to the post,
pull up for a jumper and has impressive post moves for someone of her stature.
Even as a freshman she has been my most consistent go-to player and through
her talents and level of commitment sets herself apart from many other players.
As a point guard she has proven herself time and time again to be able to handle
pressure and take control of the game when necessary by creating scoring opportunities
for herself but is also very willing and capable of contributing to the success
of her fellow teammates. Along with her offensive skills and her ability of
handling a very complicated offense Sophia, is also an excellent defensive player.
During the season we ran a 3-2, 2-3, Half-court trap, full court press and played
man as well and she was very effective in all defenses causing many turnovers
and shutting down the opposing teams best offensive player.
q Sophia will attend UCSD next year and hopes to walk-on to their basketball
team.
Congratulations, Outstanding Athlete 2007
