As of July 2004, the ropes course at Sunnyvale
Baylands Park has been turned over to the city of Sunnyvale. We
will not be taking Monta Vista students to the Ropes Course in
the near future. The teacher leaders hope to continue some of
the warm-up and team building activities within some classrooms
this year. The MV Ropes Course Teacher Leaders were Debbie Frazier,
Colin Anderson, Elizabeth McCracken, Skip Mueller, Ben Recktenwald,
and Mia Onodera.
What is the ropes course?
The
Ropes Course is a program designed to educate students about team
building and meeting personal challenges through tasks created
in an outdoor setting. The Fremont Union School District has a
facility located at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale. Teacher and student
leaders from each high school are trained to facilitate groups
on the course throughout the school year. To go on the course,
a group sponsor such as a teacher, coach, or club sponsor completes
a request form. A teacher leader will contact the sponsor to arrange
an appropriate day on the course. Activities include warm-up exercises,
team building games, and low and high "elements." The
"elements" are activities that require problem solving,
teamwork, and/or personal inner strength. MVHS groups meet on
the course at 7:25 a.m., bring their own lunch, and are finished
by 2:30 p.m.
